About Mennonite Spiritual Directors Network

Mennonite Spiritual Directors Network is a group of Mennonite colleagues who periodically gather for times of retreat, learning, and connecting with each other. With training centers at Eastern Mennonite Seminary in Virginia, Kairos in eastern Pennsylvania, and Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Indiana, many of us are clustered near these locations, with a smaller cluster near denominational offices in Kansas. Others are scattered throughout the US, with a few serving overseas. Some bring gifts of training elsewhere, at places like Shalem, Oasis Ministries, Catholic training centers, or other seminaries.

Initially a list of Mennonite spiritual directors vetted by Marlene Kropf as Minister of Worship and Spirituality with the Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries, the network began to develop as Mennonite directors were invited to the first national retreat, in Ohio 2009, and then a second in Pennsylvania in 2011.

The steering group was formed after the second national retreat and tasked with finding the way forward. It is made up of volunteers from the clustered areas, approved informally by their regional cluster. They meet bi-monthly by conference call to hear what each region is doing, to make plans for regional and national retreats, and to advocate for this ministry within the Mennonite Church.  Further questions about spiritual direction or about the Mennonite Spiritual Directors Network can be sent to current members of the Steering Group:
